Andy Jakab

Andy Jakab has been an avid musician since the age of 5 taking drum set lessons from renowned jazz musician John DeWaal, who currently plays with the Primetime Big Band. Andy played drum set until high school when he was introduced to Drum Corps.

He has performed with Allegiance Elite Drum & Bugle Corps in Calgary, Alberta for six years touring to numerous Drum Corps International competitions throughout Canada and the US. During this time Andy garnered valuable experience from world class drum corps instructors of the Santa Clara Vanguard, Blue Devils, Velvet Knights, Boston Crusaders and Star of Indiana. He also competed in the DCI Snare Drum Individuals solo competition.

During his youth, Andy also sang with the Calgary Boys' Choir and was a founding member of their Alumni Choir under the direction of the internationally renowned Vienna Boy's Choir Artistic Director Gerald Wirth.

Andy has instructed and composed music for the Bishop Grandin High School Marching Band, Allegiance Elite Drum and Bugle Corps, the Euphoria Winter drum line, and the Calgary Stampede Marching Show Band. During his tenure as the Percussion Coordinator for the Stampede Showband, the group won the prestigious World Association of Marching Showbands World Championship.

Andy has traveled with these groups to many international music competitions and events throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, and Europe where his music has been heard and recorded on numerous CDs.

He has also been an adjudicator for the musical performers in the Calgary Stampede Parade.

A highlight of Andy's percussion career was performing live with acclaimed country music star Shania Twain.

Andy is currently involved as the Percussion Facilitator of the Calgary Heritage Hands Drum Club in Calgary.
